Cape Town Open Dialogues

COP 17: Markets before Climate Justice

SPEAKER:

Pablo Solon served as Ambassador of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to the United Nations from January 2009 to June 2011 where he successfully spearheaded
resolutions on the Human Right to Water, International Mother Earth Day,Harmony with Nature and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. He was the chief negotiator for Climate Change of Bolivia and helped organise the World People’s Conference on Climate Change and Mother Earth Rights in 2010.

Durban Wolpe Lecture Series

Rights of Nature and Climate Politics

SPEAKER:

Pablo Solón is the former Bolivian Ambassador to the United Nations, and prior to taking on various diplomatic postings with the Morales government in 2006,
he was an activist with social change movements based in La Paz. As UN
Ambassador, Solón spearheaded successful resolutions on the Human Right to Water, International Mother Earth Day, Harmony with Nature and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. He helped initiate the World People's Conference on
Climate Change in Cochabamba in April 2010, and in December was the sole voice of conscience opposing US and EU domination of the COP16 in Cancun.
